About
Lily Raymond was born in New York City. Her father is a painter and printmaker, her mother is a collector of odd objects. Lily studied painting at the University of New Hampshire. She lives in Eliot, Maine.
“I’m interested in everyday objects that are often overlooked. Many of the objects in my paintings are found on the ground. Some come from my pockets, accumulate on my kitchen table, or are grown in my garden. I’m a slow painter and I work from life, which gives me the opportunity to spend long amounts of time with objects that were only intended for short-term use. My work explores the connections that develop between objects collected in an assemblage, as well as the human impulse to endow or withhold meaning.”
